Dan Brown

Dan Brown

Dan Brown, born June 22nd 1964, is an author. He is mostly known for his bestselling novel, The Da Vinci Code. He writes thriller, mystery fiction, and themes such as conspiracy theories, keys, symbols, cryptography and codes appear often in his books. He has written five novels (on his own), all five being treasure hunt stories. Two of his books were also made into films, The Da Vinci Code (2006), and Angels and Demons (2009). He also co-wrote two novels with his wife, 187 Men to Avoid: A Survival Guide for the Romantically Frustrated Woman (1995), using the false name Danielle Brown, and The Bald Book (1998), using his own name.
However, Brown was not always a writer. He grew up in New Hampshire, USA, where his father was a teacher of mathematics. His father was also a singer, and both his parents partook in the church choir, Brown's mother being the organist.
Brown attended Amherst College and graduated in 1986.

I myself have been to Amherst College, where my mum presented at a conference. We stayed for a week on the campus hotel, visiting not only Amherst city and the neighbouring cities, but also walking around the campus. We even found a couple of Geocaching spots, and the squirrels and chipmunks infesting the green areas were also quite nice.

Dan Brown decided on a musical career and self produced a children's cassette named SynthAnimals. He then created his own record company called Dalliance, and self-published a new CD called Perspective. Both Perspective and SynthAnimals only sold a few hundred copies each.
In 1991, he moved to Hollywood to become a singer-songwriter and pianist. To earn money on the side, he taught English and Spanish lessons at a private school. He joined the National Academy of Songwriters, where he met his future wife, Blythe Newlon, who is twelve years his senior. In 1993, Brown moved back to New Hampshire and he released two more CDs, Dan Brown, and Angels and Demons, in 1993 and 1994 respectively. Brown continued giving English and Spanish classes in schools in New Hampshire. While on his holiday in Tahiti (1993), Brown was first inspired to become a thriller writer after having read Sidney Sheldon's novel The Doomsday Conspiracy. He began to work on Digital Fortress, eventually quitting his teaching job in 1996 to become a full time writer. He then later married Blythe in 1997.
Dan's first three novels had little success, however the "bestseller" title given to the Da Vinci Code promoted greatly his other novels. His annual income is estimated to be at $76.5 million (US), his books have been translated into over 40 languages, and as of 2009, his books have sold over 80 million copies.
